Airbus A380 departs LAX from Rwy 25R on
03-20-2007
-- The Airbus
A380 -- the world's largest airliner -- made an historic first
visit to the U.S. West Coast when it landed at Los Angeles
International Airport
(LAX) at 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time on Monday, March 19, 2007.
The historic flight
is being conducted by Airbus, Los Angeles World Airports and Qantas
Airways to
test airport function and compatibility in anticipation of Qantas' A380
passenger service at LAX, which is scheduled to begin in 2008.
Thousands came by to see the Airbus at LAX.
This photo shows the shear size of the fuselage compared to the persons
standing underneath.
Taxing out you can see the Airline emblem's that have order the A380.
With all the delays in certifying the A380 UPS has canceled its orders
for the Freighter version.
Airbus 380 vs Boeing 747-400! Of course the photo is a little deceiving
because the 747-400 is farther away.
Takeoff was about 6:15pm local.
